Product Manager

Responsible for successfully managing product development and execution activities to launch assigned product lines or products by identifying and validating product opportunities with design briefs to determine consumer problems, competitive product positioning, and establishing ROI to support and meet the Company’s business strategy.  Champion team collaboration to make effective decisions and meet deadlines in all phases of the product development process..

Additional Responsibilities

  • Travel International and domestic (10%) as required.

Interaction and Environment

Reports To:  VP Product Development & Sourcing

Work areas are inside in a climate-controlled environment with light background noise.  Position involves occasional extended work hours and travel to multiple worksites.  Some international travel overseas may be required to work with vendors.  Additional travel may be required to attend trade shows (both domestic and international).


  • Excellent written and oral communication skill; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person and over the phone.
  • Solid word processing and computer database skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all organization levels; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to develop solid relationships with vendors and sales force.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Education and Experience

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent related experience. 
  • At least five (5) years of consumer product development related experience within a medium-sized consumer-durable products or retail company.
  • Must possess a valid Washington state driver’s license.

Essential Functions

Product Management

  1.  Manage the product development process and champion team collaboration to successfully execute product launches to meet deadlines in all phases of the product development process and achieve product targets with effective decision making while incorporating Sales and Marketing feedback.
  2. Conduct item level research based on sales and marketing trend direction or product development requests to understand consumer and retailer problems and challenges including but not limited to surveys, observational research, focus groups, market shopping, new idea brainstorming, competitor product testing, review cooking recipes to validate item opportunities.
  3. Collaborate with Sales & Marketing to understand competitor landscape to best position products to launch for placement.  Collaboration includes compiling and maintaining competitive landscape with competitive matrix analysis to understand retail pricing, testing, competitor product features and benefits, reviewing patents, reviewing critical stage gates during concept and final design to ensure validation of opportunities.
  4. Develop product design briefs in collaboration with Marketing and Industrial Designers to incorporate the opportunity, customer/sales feedback, potential features, competitive landscape, research/validating the consumer problem.  Incorporate ROI analysis with Supply Chain to understand constraints to successfully guide product development execution with designers. 
  5. Knowledgeable of product cost to guide development and recommend final list price on new products, ensuring fulfillment of Company gross margin goals and competitive factors to position products for placement.
  6. Work closely with Industrial Designers and other team members to test and approve new products; ensuring each product launched maintains the appropriate quality standard.
  7. Initiate packaging design briefs to hand off to Marketing provide with key product information used in the development of product packaging or other product related literature to clearly communicate features and benefits.
  8. Collaborate with team members concerning product set-up, ordering, inventory and product quality issues, as well as related product information.
